We’re tied with the Dodgers in our division and the town is in a fever pitch. Our arch nemesis is going down.

On the way to LA for a college reception.
We’ve stopped at Anaheim Plaza. It’s weird. These kinds of malls are weird. Where is everybody from? Why does everything have so much sugar? Wh…where ARE we?
This is the kind of place that really demonstrates to me the implications of how suburbs were invented in the fifties to protect against nuclear attack—this is a “fun fact” I reiterate a lot, but it’s so relevant! It’s a fact that reasserts itself in daily southern Californian life, defined as it is by modularity in both architecture and community. As I write this we’ve already boarded the car and hurtled ourselves miles away through a vast stretch of highway towards Los Angeles, a place physically far away yet feeling so close, its distance so obliterated by the speed of our vehicle.
My mom says that people in the US have no imagination, that when they put a hotel somewhere it has to be followed by more hotels until they form a hotel district, that one hospital becomes a hospital district, and one store, business, or industry must always assume the form of district instead of allowing for diversity and organic growth. This is part of what I mean when I talk about modularity. Large expanses of this region aren’t cultures or communities as much as they are nodes, interchangeable links in a homogeneous capitalistic organism primed for survival in a world haunted by nuclear war.
Makes me thankful that I live in the Bay Area. 19 and I still don’t feel the need to have a license since I don’t have to drive on a daily basis.

LOS ANGELES POISED TO BE THE FIRST MAJOR U.S. CITY TO CALL FOR END TO CORPORATE PERSONHOOD
LOS ANGELES, CA – Next week the Los Angeles City Council will vote on a resolution that calls on Congress to amend the Constitution to clearly establish that only living persons — not corporations — are endowed with constitutional rights and that money is not the same as free speech. If this resolution is passed, Los Angeles will be the first major city in the U.S. to call for an end to all corporate constitutional rights.
The campaign in Los Angeles is the latest grassroots effort by Move to Amend, a national coalition working to abolish corporate personhood. “Local resolution campaigns are an opportunity for citizens to speak up and let it be known that we won’t accept the corporate takeover of our government lying down,” said Kaitlin Sopoci-Belknap, a national spokesperson for Move to Amend. “We urge communities across the country to join the Move to Amend campaign and raise your voices.”

#OccupyOakland GENERAL STRIKE & MASS DAY OF ACTION – #Nov2 #OccupyCali

“Below is the proposal passed by the Occupy Oakland General Assembly on Wednesday October 26, 2011 in reclaimed Oscar Grant Plaza. 1607 people voted. 1484 voted in favor of the resolution, 77 abstained and 46 voted against it, passing the proposal at 96.9%. The General Assembly operates on a modified consensus process that passes proposals with 90% in favor and with abstaining votes removed from the final count.
PROPOSAL:We as fellow occupiers of Oscar Grant Plaza propose that on Wednesday November 2, 2011, we liberate Oakland and shut down the 1%.
We propose a city wide general strike and we propose we invite all students to walk out of school. Instead of workers going to work and students going to school, the people will converge on downtown Oakland to shut down the city.
All banks and corporations should close down for the day or we will march on them.
While we are calling for a general strike, we are also calling for much more. People who organize out of their neighborhoods, schools, community organizations, affinity groups, workplaces and families are encouraged to self organize in a way that allows them to participate in shutting down the city in whatever manner they are comfortable with and capable of.
The whole world is watching Oakland. Let’s show them what is possible.
The Strike Coordinating Council will begin meeting everyday at 5pm in Oscar Grant Plaza before the daily General Assembly at 7pm. All strike participants are invited. Stay tuned for much more information and see you next Wednesday.”~Mirrored from http://www.occupyoakland.org/2011/10/general-strike-mass-day-of-action/
Even if you’re not in Oakland you should organize your own walkout or strike. Contact people you know in unions and inform them. Gather your friends and have them walk out and go join a local occupation. We are the 99% and we are all Scott Olson
